Origin

Seed to Sky Wood Company is founded by Colby King, In Vancouver Canada. From a young age, I was drawn to the refreshing beauty of our forests and intrigued by the trees. I soon realized the tremendous impact an environment can have on ones self. Coming from the busy city life and going up to the beautiful mountainous area in the Sea to Sky region, there was an unignorable difference in the air. It felt like I was able to finally take a full breathe of fresh air and feel my smile curve upward. Naturally, It felt like home. And that's when I learned that home is not a setting; it is a feeling. A feeling of being free, and grounded in a state of serene happiness. It is that feeling which I aspire to capture in my furniture and to light up your living space.

Growing up, I was always helping out my father with fixing things around the house. In 2015 I discovered my passion for woodwork after helping my father renovate the family cabin. I completed the framing and forming carpentry program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. From there, I went on to build high-end custom houses in Vancouver for many years. As time went on, I learned that my passion was really in woodworking. I have always been a creative person and had a great appreciation for art. Pursuing the craft of making custom furniture is the perfect combination of my attraction to nature, love for woodwork, and desire to design and create! I am a perfectionist, so every little detail needs to be immaculate before moving forward. At times this can be frustrating after spending multiple hours or days on a feature that will be unseen behind the joinery. However, when finished, I can take a step back and smile, feeling satisfied knowing that every inch of my creation is perfect.

The more I created and built, the less space I had to store them all. These functional pieces of art needed a permanent home. From the moment I saw that someone else appreciates and loves the work I do and the genuine joy and excitement on their face, that was it. I wanted to share my craft with everyone, and thus, Seed to Sky Wood Company was born.
