“After several years away from my family, I wanted a more artisanal and local gift to bring a little bit of Canada back to France.
I first contacted Colby to talk about my project and he explained to me how it works. Then he offered me different types of wood and how he could make it cohabit perfectly with the magnificent maple leaves he picked up in the forest.
..and yes Colby had to go back and forth in the forest several times to find me the prettiest maple leaves of this year, dry them, and have them chosen for me.
After some adjustments on the wood, Colby with all his talent gave birth to my project. A remarkably beautiful board with perfect finishes! My parents were really amazed at the work done.I was not the easiest customer I’m sure but, Colby took up the challenge by creating this unique and exceptional piece! Colby did an amazing job!
To start he dried and flattened a beautiful piece of maple my son scrounged from Thornaby Island. We collaborated on choosing the leg support and decided on using a second narrow slab from the same tree. Then we experimented to mount them as matched V positioned in the same direction. The effect is stunning and Colby was considerate and patient to get it right! Koodo Colby.
If you look closely there are key details that incorporate techniques of seasoned and modern builder/artists and craft masters:
1.) Oakwood butterfly wedge prevents the tabletop and legs from splitting.
2.) The finish to protect the surface and bring out the wood grain is beautiful. Colby has extensive knowledge in the choice and use of the products available.
3.) Finally, the table has an interesting feature of small attractive rocks which we inserted in the crevices on the wood surface. This detail was inspired by walks on the beach when I noticed this occurred naturally in the logs washed onto the beaches of the west coast. They are six in total and represent each of our family members! Colby was enthusiastic and supportive in making this happen!
I can not wait to start on a final piece which will be an exercise bench.

“‘I found the perfect anniversary gift for my husband from Seed to Sky Wood Company. The traditional 5th-anniversary gift is crafted from “wood” which symbolizes the long-lasting strength of a marriage bond, wisdom, and forgiveness. Seed to Sky Wood Co. had a beautiful selection of charcuterie boards, but I wanted something customized for my husband. I shared with Colby what I wanted and he was able to create the perfect, unique pieces of artwork for me. His work is outstanding! The wood is so smooth and soft, with a blue epoxy river running through the middle of the board and a special quote which follows the flow of the river just perfectly. We actually won’t be using it as a charcuterie board but will be hanging it in our house as a beautiful piece of art. Colby was great to work with, he completed the work in plenty of time for our anniversary and communicated with me throughout the entire process. Colby's work is the best!
